Derby Church Rooms Remodelled!

This was a nice project as it has transformed 3x small rooms that weren’t very useful due to their size into one large room by removing a block wall, and a smaller room to function as a creche space for young families and children.

The old ceiling was extremely tired, and had seen better days with old style fluorescent light fittings that were not particularly energy efficient and gave off the typical ‘yellow’ light. The floor covering comprised of carpet tiles that were aged and the pile had flattened over the years and were definitely in need of renewal.

Box09 were contracted to replace the ceiling, the floor covering and to install an upgraded lighting solution. Onsite staff removed the block wall, old ceiling and handled the decoration in order to cut costs, so this is an example of where Box09 can dovetail with other contractors or staff and work together to complete a project.

The ceiling was tackled first, with shadow perimeter timbers installed around the outside of the rooms for the new outer track to fix to. The new ceiling grid was formed and suspended in both areas, and Armstrong Dune ceiling tiles were installed into the grid, and cut accordingly to fit the perimeter track. The smoke detectors were re-hung and fixed to plywood pattress tiles. The two electrical lighting circuits from the two old rooms were reconfigured to suit the new bigger single room, and LED panels were installed into the grid together with dimming modules and dimmer switches from CP Lighting to provide flexible and efficient lighting. In addition, PIR occupancy detection was installed, so that the lights would turn off if the room was left empty.

Once the ceiling was complete, the old carpet tiles were uplifted and the floor repaired in areas that were cracked. New commercial grade hard wearing carpet tiles from Gradus were installed and edge tiles were cut to suit.

The rooms are now fit for purpose and look great! The small room is ready for creche activities, and the larger room ready for small group work, hospitality, and other functions.
