Box09 to the Rescue!
We had a call from a school in Derby in the second week of the Easter holidays as an external contractor had driven a fence post holder into the ground and the engineer could smell gas. Cadent attended and highlighted the gas pipe run for the school and isolated the school. We were called upon in the holiday to see if we could repair the gas main and get the school back up and running in time for students returning to school!

We soft dug the area out down to about a metre and exposed the leak. The fence post had struck the plastic gas main and penetrated through both sides. The pipe section was cut out and removed with the spike (which was 900mm long!) still stuck within the pipe, see pic below.

Once the pipe was exposed sufficiently we could begin the task of supplying and installing the relevant materials in order to bring the gas back online and begin purging the system. The new section was electro-fusion welded in place and the gas turned back on. The system was purged using nitrogen gas and all the relevant appliances checked and re-commissioned. Once our Gas Safe engineers were satisfied, the excavation was back-filled and compacted. The site was left secure, safe and clean, and the customer was thrilled that the repair had been carried out in a swift and timely manner, within the final week of the Easter holiday, and in plenty of time for the children returning to school. If you’re a school who struggles getting maintenance and repairs delivered in this manner, just contact us here at Box09 and let us resolve your problem areas and pain points!
