Steel Main Entry Doors for Derby Based Academy

The old doors were not solid enough and were not fit for purpose.
We specialise in helping alternative provision schools with their unique building requirements.
Alternative Provision (AP) schools provide tailored education outside of a mainstream classroom for students who cannot attend traditional schools due to exclusions, illness, behavioural challenges, or special needs.
One of our sites in Derby needed to replace their main entrance doors from the reception lobby into the school as it was not robust enough or secure enough and was surrounded by breakable glass panels. Glass panels also cause problems as pupils can see through into the other areas.
We attended site, measured up and proposed to remove the doorway and doors and replaced with a solid, double-boarded and reinforced stud wall and steel door set.
The new doors would have smaller single vision panels in fireproof toughened glazing, and would be secured with double Trimec electronic latches, top and bottom. The locks would be cabled to and controlled by the existing Paxton Net2 controller.
The doorway was removed at the start of a Half Term, and the aperture completely opened up to receive the new timber stud frame.
The wall was built up using double plasterboard and MDF, insulated, and all cables routed to the locks. It was then prepped and painted.
The new steel frame was installed and bolted in place and the door leaves hung accordingly. The appropriate door furniture was already installed from manufacture; only the hinges and door closers needed securing to the new frame surround once the correct door position and swing was achieved.
The Paxton access controller was wired up and configured for secure operation.
To finish off, architrave was then measured, mitred and installed, followed by prepping and painting.
The finished project looks great, and it has ticked a lot of compliance-related boxes for this academy. On to the next project!

From the reception lobby, the doors are now fully secure and controlled by Paxton access control.
